(Trifluoromethyl)pyridines prepared by the metal halide catalyzed fluorine for chlorine exchange in the corresponding trichloromethylpyridines are directly separated from the reaction vessel by distillation and the residue from the distillation is employed to catalyze additional fluorine for chlorine exchange.
