PURPOSE:To enable an extremely fast image to be printed on a surface through thermal transfer, by providing a thermal printing medium with a three-layer construction comprising an ink layer and a protective layer sequentially layered, and forming the ink layer and the protective layer from materials capable of being easily welded to a polyvinyl chloride resin constituting a body to be recorded. CONSTITUTION:A transparent protective layer 2 comprising a chlorinated polyolefin resin is provided on one side of a base 1, and an ink layer 3 comprising a mixture of an acrylic or methacrylic acid ester polymer is provided on the surface of the protective layer. Where this thermal printing medium is used as a thermal transfer ribbon for a thermal transfer printer, the resins constituting the ink layer 3 and the protective layer 2 are melted upon receiving heat from a thermal head, and simultaneously the surface of a polyvinyl chloride resin constituting a body to be recorded is also melted or softened, so that the melted ink is transferred to the surface of the body under a pressure applied by the head, and the protective layer covers the surface of the ink transferred onto the body. As a result, a transferred image after solidification is enhanced in resistance to rubbing, and is markedly enhanced in adhesion. |
