METHOD FOR RECOVERING OIL

PURPOSE:To efficiently recover oil by spreading magnetic polymer powder affiliated with oil to an oily material on the water surface and trapping oil to the polymer and attracting it with a magnet. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic polymer powder is obtained by depositing a magnetic material such as magnetite and cobalt ferrite having <=2,000Angstrom average particle diameter on a polymer such as polyvinylpyridinium quaternary salt having an affinity with oil. In case of spreading this magnetic polymer powder to an oily material on the water surface, oil is substantially magnetized by the adhesion of this powder. Thereafter oil is efficiently recovered by using a magnet and attracting it.
