A device for sustained drug delivery to the rumen is presented. The device has a hydrolysable, biodegradable, polymeric core(contg. dissolved or suspended medicament) inside a rumencompativle tube having at least one open end. The annulus between the core and tube is filled with a relatively thick layer of elastic sealant which acts as adhesive. This sealant is impermeable to water; unaffected by rumen conditions, and compatible with tube, core and rumen. The sealant prevents contact between rumen fluid and the walls of the core, so that erosion take place only at the open ends, providing a more consistent release of drug.
