An X-ray source (15) sends a fan-shaped beam to a region of an object (19) as it is rotated (17, 18) about the object X-rays passing through the object are corrected by a multiple element Xray detector (16). A computer arithmatically reconstructs the distribution of the object's X-ary absorption coefficients over the measured cross- section. Data are produced from the data collected from the object which are equivalent to data derived from parallel beams at irregular seperation intervals. The generated data are filtered, corrected for inhomogeneity and back projected to show a distribution image.
