PURPOSE:To prevent the formation of carbon due to the thermal cracking of hydrocarbon fuel by providing a steam introducing means to a fuel supply tube, and arranging a steam reforming catalyst in the fuel supply tube in a catalytic combustion type steam reforming apparatus of hydrocarbon. CONSTITUTION:In a fuel reforming apparatus contg. a reaction tube 5 which is packed with a reforming catalyst 4 and a fuel supply tube 9 packed with a combustion catalyst 6, fuel D and steam A are mixed by a mixer 12 and supplied into the fuel supply tube 9. And a gaseous mixture B of hydrocarbon as a reforming material and steam is supplied into the reaction tube 5 from an inlet 2 through a header 13 of the reaction vessel. After finishing the reforming, the formed gas C is taken out from an outlet tube 1 through a return tube 14. Since the fuel D is mixed with steam, the fuel consisting of hydrocarbon is reformed into hydrogen, and supplied into a catalytic combustion part. In this way, the troubles resulting from the carbon deposition on the combustion catalyst 6 due to deficiency of oxygen or the carbon deposition in the fuel supply tube 9 due to the thermal cracking of hydrocarbon can be eliminated.
