COKE RECEIVING AND QUENCHING CONTAINER IN COKE OVENS

A coke quenching car runs on a track along an oven battery and has horizontal sealing plates from the upper edges of front and rear walls, and a hood with sides slightly spaced above the car wall and a second pair of horizontal sealing plates over laying those of the car while leaving a gap. Each plate has a length at least half the distance covered by the car during a pushing operation so that the car interior is closed off during the entire operation except for the gaps which permit entry of a small amount of air.
