PURPOSE:To enable easy removal of bubbles remaining in a recording head by providing a capping action which makes an elastic cap sealing force in the periphery of an orifice constant with the help of a spring force and a cap action which forcibly generates a compression force in addition to a spring force. CONSTITUTION:A gear 12 rotates to move forward and backward a cap holder 10 which incorporates an elastic cap 3A, and the sealing force of a recording head 1 is generated by the advancing force of the cap holder 10 which is guided along a base by a spring force 15. The recording head and the base are installed in a fixed positional relationship, so that the sealing force becomes constant. If the elastic cap 3A is forcibly moved forward and backward in a condition in which a ventilation valve and a solenoid valve 8 are closed, the air in the elastic cap 3A is compressed, allowing the air to enter a common ink chamber 1B and part of a head feeder pipe 1D. If the air is sucked under negative pressure in such a condition, it is discharged all at once through a nozzle, and the head feeder pipe 1D, the common ink chamber 1B and a multinozzle 1A are filled with the ink, thus ensuring a stable discharge in a printing head 1. |
