A gas detecting apparatus comprising a gas sensor, a load limiting resistor connected in series to the gas sensor, an electric source for applying a predetermined voltage to the gas sensor and the load limiting resistor, and means to detect resistance variations of the gas sensor, wherein the gas sensor comprises a semiconductor of metal oxide placed at least at both ends thereof in close contact with a metallic heating member, the semiconductor being heated by the metallic heating member, whereby variations in combined resistance of the semiconductor and the metallic heating member which occur as the semiconductor adsorbs a gas are detected by said means.
