According to a further essential feature of the invention, the knife drive takes place with the aid of hydraulic lifting cylinders (23) via a gear mechanism having toothed racks and gear wheels in such a manner that, during the cutting operation, a lifting stroke, which is greater than the lifting stroke of the hydraulic lifting cylinders (23), is imparted to the knife block (10). <IMAGE>
