In order to make the tacking points necessary in motor-vehicle seats, tacking strips are generally used. These tacking strips are connected to the upholstery covering on the underside of the latter. In order to provide a simplification here, it is proposed, according to the invention, to sew the tacking strips on at the same time as the piping seams are made. For this purpose, the sewing machine designed according to the invention has holding devices, fastened to its bearing rails, for receiving the tacking strips.
