In a fuel additive feed device of motor vehicles, which are equipped with a fuel level sensor, the output signal from the fuel level sensor is fed into a memory when the vehicle is not in operation. By means of a comparator device, this signal is compared with an earlier signal from the fuel level sensor stored therein. In the event of a difference between the two signals, which is caused by an increase of the fuel level, the top-up device for the fuel additive can be activated. The quality of the fuel is thereby automatically raised to the required level.
