Viscous coupling with variable shearing gaps and resilient spacers

In a viscous coupling, the coupling torque can be influenced by means of shearing gaps of variable width using resilient spacers which each support a wall part bounding a shearing gap with a friction surface wettable by the viscous working medium relative to the associated coupling half. To ensure that the viscous coupling can adapt automatically to viscosity changes in such a way that the transmissible coupling torque remains uninfluenced, the wall parts having the friction surface are connected to their respective coupling half exclusively by the resilient spacer, and the other wall parts bounding the same shearing gap with a corresponding counter-friction surface are arranged immobile relative to the other coupling half.
