PURPOSE:To improve the corrosion resistance and the active material utilization factor by immersing a porous sintered substrate in concentrated nitric acid to form an oxide film on its surface then performing the active material filling operations on this porous sintered substrate. CONSTITUTION:A nickel sintered substrate with the porosity of about 80% is immersed in concentrated nitric acid then is washed with water to form a porous sintered substrate, this porous sintered substrate is immersed in a nickel nitrate aqueous solution with the specific gravity of 1.75 at a temperature of 80 deg.C for 30 minutes to impregnate fine holes of the substrate with nickel nitrate, then a series of active material filling operations that the substrate is immersed in a caustic soda solution of 25wt% at a temperature of 80 deg.C to activate the nickel nitrate in the substrate are repeated five times, thus a sintered nickel electrode is produced. This nickel electrode is used as a positive electrode, and a sintered cadmium electrode is used as a negative electrode to produce a nickel-cadmium storage battery. Accordingly, the corrosion resistance of the sintered substrate can be obtained without reducing the active material utilization factor. |
