The invention relates to a method for producing pulse-width-modulated signals (PR, PS, PT) for a converter, especially a pulse-controlled converter, using a sampling signal (SAB) and a reference signal. According to the invention, two reference signals (a, b), each consisting of sections (having an electrical width of 60 DEG arranged in a row) are compared with the sampling signal (SAB). The wave forms of these sections with respect to time in each case correspond to a wave form with respect to time of a sinusoidal signal section having an electrical width of 60 DEG in the limits 30 DEG </= alpha </= 90 DEG for the first reference signal (a) and in the limits 90 DEG </= alpha </= 150 DEG for the second reference signal (b). Three pulse-width modulated phase signals (PR, PS, PT) are assembled in sections in this case from the two pulse-width-modulated signals (AM, BM) produced, with the aid of control signals (RA, RB, SA, SB, TA, TB), a rectangular wave form signal (f3) at three times the fundamental frequency (f1) and a digital processing circuit (22), such that an interlinked signal (URS, UST, UTR) is in each case produced whose mean value with respect to time is sinusoidal. A drive unit of simple construction is thus obtained, whose sinusoidal modulation range is considerably greater and which has no DC element governed by the concept. <IMAGE>
