INTERPOLATION CIRCUIT FOR DIGITAL PICTURE SIGNAL

PURPOSE:To ensure the interpolation of a composite color video signal by giving interpolation to the picture data on a prescribed picture element by the linear primary combination between the prescribed number of existing picture data surrounding the prescribed picture element and the prescribed number of weight coefficients and deciding the weight coefficient so that the square sum of the errors between the interpolation value and the true value is minimized. CONSTITUTION:The picture data on the thinned picture elements is estimated by the linear primary combination between the prescribed number of existing picture data surrounding the thinned picture elements within the same field (frame) and the prescribed number of weight coefficients. A weight coefficient is previously decided so that the square sum of errors between the estimated interpolation value and the true value is minimized. This weight coefficient is identified as follows. That is, plural sheets of pictures are photographed by a video camera and this photographing signal is digitized to obtain the picture data. Then this picture data is processed by an electronic computer. The number (degree number) of picture data existing at the periphery and used for identification of the weight coefficient is set in accordance with the hardware scale. Thus such a weight coefficient that minimizes the square sum of errors is identified by setting said degree number.
