The invention relates to a pneumatic vehicle tyre having a tread which is provided with incisions and exhibits a wear indicator. In order to permit a better, reliable judgement of the degree of wear of the tread, the invention provides an incision which extends from a profile depression and whose side surface rises considerably less steeply, with respect to the tread, than the surfaces which delimit the profiling of the tread laterally. Said side surfaces are, in addition, provided with a multiplicity of steps. The gentle rise of the side surface of the abovementioned incisions permits a plurality of steps to be provided, and, in addition, the indicating surface is enlarged.
