PURPOSE:To contrive higher throughput, by inputting a printing signal including information for execution of a paper thickness detecting operation and controlling a paper thickness detecting part based on the information, in the case of continuously printing on printing papers having the same thickness. CONSTITUTION:In the case of continuously printing on slips 6 having the same thickness, a printing signal S5 for the first sheet includes information on paper thickness detection, so that a controlling part 18 sends a paper thickness detecting signal S4 to a paper thickness detecting part 24 to detect the thickness of the slip 6. Based on the value detected, the controlling part 18 adjusts the gap between a printing surface of the slip 6 and the tip of a printing head, and printing and discharge of the slip 6 are performed based on the printing signal S5. The printing signal S5 for the second and latter sheets does not include the information on paper thickness detection, so that the 'paper thickness detecting' and the 'gap adjusting' operations are omitted. Accordingly, throughput can be markedly enhanced. |
