摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To speed up the operation and to miniaturize the device by providing a solid-state electro-optic crystal as a base material with a base electrode, to which a bias voltage is applied, and a signal electrode which controls transmission of light and forming an optical shutter part between this signal electrode and the base electrode. CONSTITUTION:A solid-state electro-optic crystal 1a is provided with a base electrode 1b and a signal electrode 1c, to form an optical shutter part 1d between these electrodes, and this electro-optic effect element 1 rotates the plane of polarization by, e.g. 90 deg. to allow the light to pass through only when a prescribed voltage is applied to form an electric field. The evitre device consists of this element 1, a polarizer 2 which is placed at the rear of the electro-optic effect element 1 in the advancing direction of light and allows the light linearly polarized at 45 deg. to the electric field of the element 1 to pass through, and an analyzer 3 which is placed ahead of the element 1 in the advancing direction of light and has the plane of polarization inclined at, e.g., 90 deg. to the polarizer 12. The bias voltage is applied to the base electrode 1b, and the picture signal of characters or the like is inputted to the signal electrode 1c as an electric signal. Thus, the device is made small-sized with high-speed performance.</p>
