PURPOSE:To transfer a sharp printing image by preventing the generation of sticking and blocking phenomena, by providing a resin layer containing a polymer having a specific side chain to a support on the side opposite to the coloring material layer of the support. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal transfer recording medium wherein at least one coloring material layer containing a heat-meltable substance is provided on a support, a resin layer containing a polymer wherein R<1>NHCO- (wherein R<1> is a 8 or more C alkyl group) is bonded to a main chain by interposing a coupling group or not interposing the same is formed to the support on the side opposite to the aforementioned coloring material layer. The alkyl group (R<1>) may be a straight or branched chain and may have a halogen atom such as a fluorine atom, a chlorine atom or a bromine atom and other substitutent such as an amino group, a nitro group, a phenyl group or a hydroxyl group. A pref. polymer has a softening point of 60 deg.C or higher. When the softening point of the resin is 60 deg.C or higher, the enhancement of a blocking characteristic can be achieved.
