PURPOSE:To measure the polarized wave dispersion of a polarized wave maintaining fiber and the dispersion of respective polarized waves with high accuracy by providing a polarizer, support jigs with rotary mechanisms, etc. CONSTITUTION:Light from a light source 1 is passed through a light-wavelength filter 3 and polarized linearly by a incidence-side polarizer 4a. This linear polarized light is branched by a half-mirror 5a and a 1st light is passed through a 1st optical path consisting of mirrors 6a-6f from a light shield plate 13, changed in its optical path by a corner cube 9, and guided to a half-mirror 5b. 2nd light branched by the mirror 5a is guided to an optical fiber 8. The incidence- and projection-side end parts of this fiber 8 are mounted on fiber support jigs 7a and 7b. Further, the projection light of the fiber 8 is guided to the mirror 5b. Therefore, the output light of the cube 9 and the output light from a polarizer 4b interfere with each other and the light interference output is made incident on a photodetector 11, which detects interference fringes. The result is led to a data processing terminal 12, where the delay time and dispersion of each polarized wave of the polarization maintaining optical fiber are calculated. |
