The boring apparatus is noteworthy in that the tool-holding spindle 4 is arranged with an infinitely rigid part on either side of the flexible cap 2 substantially as far as the bearing surface for contact of the ball 7 on the tool-holding spindle, and an infinitely flexible part on the side opposite the tool lying between the bearing point of the ball 7 introducing the dimension uptake and rear bearing point of the ring 21 allowing prestress to be introduced, the bending force only being provided on this latter part. <IMAGE>
