A method of mounting the machine in a settable position comprises disposing two wedge-shaped washers (1, 2) between two mutually facing bearing surfaces of the machine and the stand. The orientation of the machine relative to the vertical is set by relative and/or conjunctive rotation of the washers and the height of the machine is set by relative rectilinear displacement of the washers. The set position of the machine is maintained by a clamping bolt (7) with fixing nuts (9, 12), the same bolt being used, during the setting phase, as a guide for lifting means relieving the load of the machine on the washers.
