PURPOSE:To prevent the operating pressure of a fuel cell from fluctuations by changing the rotating speed of an air compressor in response to the load of the fuel cell thereby controlling the air flow fed to the air electrode of the fuel cell. CONSTITUTION:Hydrocarbon fuel is reformed by a reformer 2 into gas containing much hydrogen then fed to the fuel electrode 1a of a fuel cell; the air fed from an air compressor 3 is pre-heated by the excess air from the air electrode 1b of the fuel cell 1 in a heat exchanger 5 and fed to the air electrode 1b. In this case, the air flow fed to the air electrode 1b is controlled by changing the rotating speed of the air compressor 3 with an inverter 6 connected to the motor of the air compressor 3 in response to the load of the fuel cell 1. Accordingly, the flow can be smoothly controlled over a wide range; changes of the operating pressure of the fuel cell 1 are prevented; and no effects are given to the cell life. |
