Process for chopping off propellant charge powder granules, and device for carrying out the process

The present invention deals with a process for chopping off propellant charge powder granules directly at the die of an extruder, from which corresponding strands of propellant charge powder issue, and with a device for carrying out this process. The chopping-off is effected by means of a knife which slides in close contact over the bore surface of the granulating die. The knife moves to and fro, and the chopping-off takes place during both the forward and back movements. The device for carrying out this procedure has a ram, whose side surfaces are guided by guide strips which are screwed to the extruder outlet. The ram also has guide claws with bores which engage into the guide bolts of the knife holder. Between the guide claws and the knife holder, springs are arranged which force the knife holder against the chopping surface on the granulating disc.
