A standard mixture of O-(beta-hydroxyethyl)- diosmines (I) is prepared by treating 1 mole of diosmine (II) with 4.5 moles of 2-chloroethanol in an aq. alkaline medium at 15-30 deg.C. (I) comprises a mixt. of 5- and 3'-mono-O-(beta hydroxyethyl) -diosmines (IA and IB) and 5,3'- di-O-(beta-hydroxyl) -diosmine (IC). The aq. medium may be water alone, or in admixture with a mono or poly-hydroxyl alcohol, such as ethanol, isopropanal, n-propanol, or ethylene glycol. Reaction time is 18-30 hours.
