The invention proposes a process for fastening insulating-material panels and roof sheeting on a preferably horizontal carrying structure comprising steel profiled plates, in accordance with which process, reaching a profile crest is established by non-destructive measurement by scanning the panel or sheeting surface perpendicularly to the profile progression. The invention proposes, in particular, to effect the measurement as a field-intensity measurement, infrared measurement or sonar measurement. The time-consuming marking work required to indicate the fastening points is thus dispensed with, as a result of which the process is rendered considerably more cost-effective. In particular in the case of additional coverings on existing roofs, a considerable amount of time can thus be saved, it being possible reliably to avoid the erroneous position of fastening screws. The invention likewise proposes a suitable apparatus. <IMAGE>
