An aid for the rapid evaluation of lottery tickets or betting slips provided with number fields to be marked is a mask which is designed as a sheet-like carrier with windows which are impenetrable optically, magnetically or electrically, such as opaque, and the quantity, position and size of which are matched to the number fields and which are held releasably on the carrier. Such a mask can be prepared in a very simple way by releasing or opening appropriate windows of the carrier. By placing the mask onto a lottery ticket or betting slip, the result comparison can be made very simply, quickly and reliably in terms of result in a visual or also a fully or partly automatic way.
