A method is specified by means of which the central position of the core of an optical fibre (10) can be ensured. For this purpose, the position of the core during drawing of the optical fibre (10) is determined by means of two transilluminating devices (13, 14) arranged at right angles to one another. The measurement result of the two transilluminating devices (13, 14) is used, if necessary, in the annular furnace (3) to adjust the preform (1) from which the optical fibre (10) is drawn. <IMAGE>
