One embodiment of the present invention provides a display device and a display method, whereby information relating to the color temperature of a light source can be acquired, while suppressing deterioration of a sensor and influence of detection accuracy. According to the one embodiment of the present invention, the display device is provided with a display panel, a drive unit, a detection unit, and an acquiring unit. The drive unit drives the display panel on the basis of image signals. The detection unit acquires a first detection value by detecting reflected light from a reflecting medium, said reflected light being generated in the cases where the reflecting medium is irradiated with environmental light, and acquires a second detection value by detecting reflected light from the reflecting medium, said reflected light being generated in the cases where the reflecting medium is irradiated with display light of the display panel. The drive unit corrects a drive value of the display panel such that the second detection value is close to the first detection value or a chromaticity indicated by the second detection value is close to a chromaticity indicated by the first detection value, and the acquiring unit acquires information relating to the color temperature of the environmental light on the basis of the drive value thus corrected. |
