PURPOSE:To enable a test to be easily performed by a simple an inexpensive tester, by making it possible to alternatively selecting and executing a driving controlling program for heat generating elements and a self-testing program which are provided in a microcomputer. CONSTITUTION:A microcomputer 10 has a driving controlling program part 10a for controlling the driving of heat generating elements for heat generation by a driving part 40 according to the resistances and temperatures of the elements, and a self-testing program part 10b for cooperating with a tester equipped with only an analog measuring instrument in testing the conditions of a thermal head such as the resistance of each of the heat generating resistors. Both parts can be alternatively selected by, for example, determining whether a test terminal 20 is short-to a ground line. The detection of the temperatures of the heat generating resistors is performed by a temperature-detecting means 11 including a thermistor or the like. The detection of the resistances is performed by a resistance-detecting means 12 comprising a monitor resistor produced simultaneously with the manufacture of the heat generating resistors R1-R2048. According]y, there is no need to modify a software for testing by the tester, and the thermal head can be tested with an inexpensive device. |
