The aim of the described invention is to make possible automatic cleaning of plug-in screen surfaces in filters during continuing operation with simultaneous discharge of the sedimented dirt particles. To this end a device is proposed for filtering the spraying liquid in cleaning machines consisting of screen boxes connected to the spraying baths and plug-in screens inserted loosely therein, in which device the plug-in screen surface (9) according to Fig. 2 with the associated bath level (7) encloses an obtuse angle, and there is arranged below this surface a collection chamber (10) from which a sealable discharge (11) leads into a cleaning bath connected upstream, and a cleaning device (17) which can be actuated in dependence on the difference in level between compression and suction side (16, 15) interacts with the plug-in screen surface.
