A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF SYNTHESIS GAS A process for the preparation of synthesis gas by the partial combustion of an ash-containing fuel with an oxygen-containing gas in a reactor, synthesis gas formed being removed through a gas discharge pipe at the top of the reactor and slag formed through a slag discharge at the bottom of the reactor, in which the synthesis gas in the reactor is countercurrently contacted with cold fly slag agglomerates in order to improve the slagging efficiency of the process.
