PURPOSE:To prevent repulse of an orientating agent at a boundary part of a masking layer, thereby forming effectively the orientation film by pattern- forming a transparent electrode, and the masking layer on the inner surface of a substrate, followed by coating the orientation agent on the obtd. substrate, and curing, by repeating it >=2 times to form the orientation film. CONSTITUTION:The display electrode 2 is pattern-formed on the inner surface of the display substrate 1 composed of a glass plate, and a counter electrode 4 is pattern-formed on the inner surface of a counter substrate 3, and the masking layer 5 is formed on a part except the display pattern of the counter substrate 3 by off-set printing with a black ink. Subsequently, the orientation films 6 and 7 made of a polyimide resin are formed on the inner surfaces of the display substrate 1 and the counter substrate 3 respectively. In this case, at the time of coating the polyimide precursor on the counter substrate 3, the orientation film 7 is effected parting at the boundary part of the masking layer 5, repulsing the resin solution with a petroleum hydrocarbon sticked on the counter electrode 4. Thus, the continuous orientation film 7 is uniformly formed on the counter substrate 3 by coating the polyimide precursor on the counter substrate 3 followed by curing it, and by repeating it >=2 times. |
