The present invention relates to a heat-pipe type evaporator for a machine operating by absorption, especially for a refrigerator operating by absorption-diffusion, in which the bottom end part of the heat pipe forming the evaporator is heated by a heat source, while its top end part forming a condenser is in heat-exchange contact with the refrigerant contained in the evaporator. This evaporator is characterised in that it comprises at least one vertical pump tube 3 supplied, at its bottom part, with solution rich in refrigerant and the top end part forming the condenser 12c of the heat pipe 12 is in heat-exchange contact over all or part of this vertical pump tube 3. <IMAGE>
