The methods described above are particularly suitable for recording traffic radio announcements in car radios. When travelling by car, it is frequently not possible to catch all necessary details of a message because of the variety of messages, the distraction by the traffic and the driving noises. A recording unit which stores the last traffic radio announcement in each case received and repeats it as many times as desired provides for much better utilisation of the existing traffic radio system. Similarly, it is useful, as described above, to define a search mode with the device switched off, in which, in order to save electrical energy, individual units of the receiver (compare 3.2) or even of the entire receiving section (compare 4) are temporarily switched off. This is possible since traffic radio transmissions are only transmitted approximately every 30 minutes. However, this ensures that the latest traffic message is in each case stored and thus is also directly available when the trip is started. To ensure the operation of the system, the car radio must have a conventional circuit for evaluating the programme identification which makes it possible to detect a traffic radio station as such automatically and to select it.
