Vibration-proof foundation for protecting mainly residential buildings against vibrations, e.g. for avoiding the damaging effects of earthquakes, the foundation containing a motion damper part for preventing the transmission of vibrations, and the motion damper containing a closed pressurised space insulated with a conveniently elastic material, e.g. a rubber tape. The pressurised space is formed by a compressed-air space enclosed by two reinforced concrete slabs and advantageously extending under the entire base contour of the building. At the surfaces lying towards the compressed-air space, the reinforced concrete slabs are provided with insulation, conveniently steel-plate insulation. The two reinforced concrete slabs are connected to one another via releasable connections, e.g. bolts. The head of the bolts is accommodated in recesses in the bottom slab, and the threaded part as well as the associated nut and spring washers are accommodated in recesses in the top slab. The top slab is supported in the lateral direction via an elastic material to absorb the wind forces, conveniently via springs, and the bottom slab is covered with an elastic lining of, for example, felt sheets, if need be also asbestos sheets.
