PURPOSE:To prevent smoothly water from running even if the water enters a cable by arranging optical fibers at the outer periphery of a tension member provided with a resin film layer which contains a water-absorptive swelling material, and forming a pressure winding tape layer and a sheath layer outside the fibers. CONSTITUTION:The optical fibers 3 are stranded directly at the outer periphery of the tension member 2 provided with the resin film layer 1 which contains the water-absorptive swelling material and the outside is coated with a buffer layer 4, the pressure winding tape layer 5, and the sheath layer 6 successively. If the sheath cracks to allow water to enter the cable, it is absorbed by the water-absorptive swelling material in the resin film layer 1 provided to the tension member 2 smoothly and the water-absorptive swelling material while held by the resin swells and increases in capacity to seal the gap in the cable, specially the gap between the tension member 2 and optical fibers 3. Consequently, the water entering the cable is disabled to spread in the cable and prevented from running. |
