The present invention relates to a process for producing polyoxyalkylene ethane sulphonates and the use thereof as surfactants. The process comprises reacting the parent ethane halide with a metal sulphite in an aqueous medium in the presence of a small quantity of the preformed reaction product. The presence of the reaction product avoids problems of high viscosity during reaction. |
