An approximately plate-like noise protection wall capable of being covered with vegetation on both sides for traffic areas, which possesses, if necessary on both wall surfaces, climbing aids which serve to support and hold the stems, branches, shoots or twigs of covering plants on the wall, has the roots of the plants arranged in the ground only on that side of the noise protection wall facing away from the traffic area. The noise protection wall has openings for the passage of preferably some of the plant branches, shoots or twigs on the side of the wall facing the traffic area. The passage of sound is obstructed on one or both sides by means of plates or partially open boxes or bent tube pieces inserted into the wall openings.
