In a process for melting hot-melt adhesives, blocks (40) of the adhesive are completely enclosed in a film envelope and melted together with the film envelope in a pressure melting device (10). In a cylinder (12) of the pressure melting device, the material is pressed with the aid of a piston (20) against a heatable plate (16) provided with discharge channels (34, 14), so that the film and the adhesive melt on the plate (16) and emerge through an outlet (38). In the process, the film envelope prevents adhesion of the adhesive to the walls of a feed shaft (26) and to the interior walls of the cylinder (12). <IMAGE>
