BUS ARBITRATION SYSTEM FOR A DATA PROCESSING SYSTEM

A bus arbitration system is described for use in conjunction with a parallel bus including address and data lines (2) and control lines (20,21,22). Essentially, it involves the use of a Request signal (20), instead of a Acknowledge signal as the propagated polling signal (21) and making use of the delay elements in each bus unit, which act in parallel with poll propagation and with each other to reduce the net poll propagation time. Making use of the Request use of the Request signal (20) allows initiation of arbitration prior to the activation time of the Acknowledge line (21).
