By means of ultrasound, which acts on the grinding-wheel surface from an ultrasound transmitter via the cooling water, adhering, loose particles are separated from the grinding-wheel surface and fed to the cooling water, with the result that intensive cleaning of the grinding wheel and hence improved quality and performance of the grinding work are achieved.
