The invention relates to a conveying apparatus for conveying workpiece carriers or tool carriers from a first station to a second station arranged at a distance from the former and vice versa, having in each case one linear driver arrangement, which is provided on the workpiece carriers or tool carriers and has a row of drivers, and having a drive device, which is arranged between the stations and has at least two drive elements which can be driven in a rotary fashion and can be brought into a drive connection with the drivers. According to the invention, each of the drive elements is constructed as an element which is rotatable about an axis running transversely with respect to the conveying direction and has drive fingers arranged at the end face in the manner of a pin gearing.
