PURPOSE:To improve the yield of a product and to stabilize an operation by providing side end gates bisected at the center line of a roll gap to the end faces of cooling twin rolls, sliding and lowering the gates in the casting direction and pressing the gates to the end faces of the rolls. CONSTITUTION:The end gates 3, 3' divided at the bisector of the roll gap are provided to the end faces of the cooling twin rolls 1, 1' and are fixed by cases 10, 11, 11'. Springs 4, 4' are disposed between the cases 10 and 11, 11'. The case 10 is pressurized by a pneumatic cylinder 5 to bring the gates 3, 3' into tight contact with the end faces of the twin rolls 1, 1'. The two end gates 3, 3' are further slid and lowered at a constant speed by electrically driven jacks 12, 12', etc. The gates 3, 3' are held in tight contact with the end faces of the rolls 1, 1' by following up to the slight movement thereof by the above- mentioned method. The generation of molten metal leakage and the formation of flash are, therefore, eliminated, by which the yield of the product is improved and the operation is stabilized. |
