PURPOSE:To extend the life of metallic belts by executing continuous casting of an ingot in such a manner that the correlations among the width of the metallic belts, the width of the ingot, and the initial set tension and yield stress of the metallic belts satisfy specific conditions. CONSTITUTION:A casting space is formed of a pair of the metallic belts 1, 2 which are cyclically moved by plural pieces of guide rolls 3a-3c, 3a'-3c' and short side metallic casting molds 4, 5. The set stress sigma0 is applied to the metallic belts 1, 2 in the region where the belts contact a molten steel or the ingot at the time of casting. The stress sigma0 smaller than the set stress sigma0 is then generated in the part where the molten steel and the ingot contact with each other. The high stress sigma0 is generated in the adjacent region thereof. The thermal deformation and plastic deformation of the belts 1, 2 are prevented if casting is executed in such a manner that the set stress sigma0, the belt width B, the ingot width (b), and the yield stress sigmar.s satisfy equations I, II. The life of the metallic belts 1, 2 is, therefore, extended. |
