PURPOSE:To enable the formation of a ferroelectric phase at a temp. close to ordinary temp. by using a mixture of a thermoplastic resin with a mixture of two or more kinds of ester type chiral smectic liq. crystals. CONSTITUTION:A ferroelectric composite film is produced with a mixture of a thermoplastic resin with a mixture of at least two kinds of ester type chiral smectic liq. crystals represented by formula I [where X is CnH2n+1O-, a group represented by formula II (n is an integer of 1-20) or a group represented by formula III, and Y is CmH2m+1CmH2m+1O- (m is an integer of 1-20) or a group represented by formula IV]. Since the composite film contains the thermoplastic resin, it is more easily produced than a film of only liq. crystals. The composite film forms a ferroelectric phase at a temp. close to ordinary temp. and gives superior luminance when used for display. |
