<p>PURPOSE:To relax the accuracy required for a conveyor mechanism and to reduce the cost of a device by fixing the position of each bit signal in accordance with the time needed for drive of the full length of a card and the time needed from a reference time point to the detection time point of each bit signal. CONSTITUTION:The time interval T of the time point when the traveling front and end edges 11 and 12 of a card 1 carried toward an arrow mark at a fixed speed is detected by a card detection sensor 3 is measured. At the same time, each time point (Ti: i=1, 2, 3...) when each perforation 2 is detected based on the time point when the edge 11 is detected by a data detection sensor 4 is measured. Then a table where the bit signal position (bit signal address including ON and OFF) corresponding to the Ti/T value is retrieved based on said Ti/T value.
