PURPOSE:To obtain a highly economical laser by a method wherein a catalyst layer is provided on the inner face of a discharge tube and a catalytic action is generated in a discharge part to recombine CO and O2 and return to CO2 in the discharge tube. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst layer 12 is provided on the inner face of a discharge tube 1 in the longitudinal direction and the catalytic power is adjusted according to the length. An AC power source 13a is connected to discharge electrodes 3 and 4, the catalyst 12a is heated and activated by glow discharge 5 and CO and O2 which are dissociated are recombined in the catalyst layer 12a. The catalyst layer is formed into a stripe form, the contact area with gas is increased and to promote the reaction of recombination is also possible. According to this constitution, a decrease with time of a laser output can be lessened. Moreover, the temperature can be heated up without using a heater and the catalytic action can be economically made quicker. |
