The invention discloses a method of preparing a silver salt of an organic acid comprising the steps of: (A) preparing a mixture of: (1) at least one organic carboxylic acid, (2) a hydrocarbon solvent, and (3) a mineral acid; and (B) adding a source of silver cation while maintaining the temperature of the resultant mixture between about 60 DEG C. and below the decomposition temperature of the components and product for a period of time sufficient to form the desired silver salt.
